On Linux, your best bet is either the &lt;tt&gt;clock()&lt;/tt&gt; function (don&#039;t!), the &lt;tt&gt;rdtsc&lt;/tt&gt; instruction or the &lt;tt&gt;gettimeofday()&lt;/tt&gt; function which gives a theoretical nanosecond precision. Thought someone might be interested.</description>
